We believe in the power of the mind, that your subconscious mind and your conscious thoughts can alter both behavior and outlook on life.

To explain more about what hypnosis is, it might be better to state what hypnosis is not.
When a person is hypnotized, they are not asleep or in some eerie trance state. The hypnotized individual is aware of everything that is taking place. Even after being brought out of hypnosis, a person will be able to recall what took place during the session.
Hypnosis is a very normal, natural state that most of us experience everyday. An example of daily hypnosis would be driving a car and realizing that you don’t remember the last three or four streets you just passed. Perhaps you drove right by your exit! Another example would be a person watching television. When another member of the family enters and announces that dinner is ready, the person watching the television did not even blink an eye! Anytime you are so deeply focused on a task that you “tune out” distractions you are in a light hypnotic state because the conscious part of the mind has been distracted, allowing the subconscious part of the mind to take over.
During a hypnotic session, an individual will achieve a very deep and successful state of hypnosis. The following are questions that are frequently asked by individuals prior to being hypnotized.
Who Can Be Hypnotized?
Anyone who wants to be hypnotized can be. We have hypnotized people in both group and private sessions and have yet to find a person who wanted to be hypnotized and that could not reach a trance state. There are a variety of relaxation techniques to be used to assist clients to enter a hypnotic state.
What if you can’t bring me out of it?
There is no danger of a person failing to come out of the hypnotic state. In fact, it would be impossible to remain hypnotized. Even if the hypnotherapist left the office while an individual was in the hypnotic state, there would be no danger. The person would drift off into a natural state of sleep and would awaken when rested.
Are there any circumstances when hypnosis should not be used?
There are a few situations where hypnosis is contraindicated. These are:
We always encourage you to keep your physician apprised of any activities you participate in to improve your outlook and well being. We will provide you with a Provider Notification Letter to give to your medical professional.
What suggestions do you give?
We use positive affirming thoughts to make changes. As part of the intake process, we will get clarity on what you are seeking to change. If you have concerns or questions, be sure to bring them up. Know however that, during hypnosis, you are fully aware of everything we say and will have full ability to accept or reject what is being said.
Will I do something against my will?
When you are hypnotized, you are aware of all suggestions given to you, and you will not do anything that you are opposed to doing. You can accept or reject any suggestions. Because you cannot be made to do anything you don’t want to do, you must be sincere in your desire to change.
What about cancer patients and those with other chronic illnesses?
The American Cancer Society encourages the use of guided imagery. Visualizing wellness helps with your healing process. Our clients have found that hypnosis has helped with fatigue, pain, stress and the side effects of treatment. We completed specialized training in Philadelphia to work with individuals undergoing medical treatment for cancer. You can participate in hypnosis in a group setting at one of our groups or request an individual session.
Can children be hypnotized?
Children are excellent subjects for hypnosis because they are so good at using their imagination! Hypnosis can help with self esteem and confidence, performance in academics or sports, stuttering, bedwetting, nail biting and coping with the side effects of treatment for chronic illnesses and cancer, to name a few. Even children cannot be made to do something they do not want to do with hypnosis. If it is their goal to make a change, they can.
What about hypnosis for weight loss?
We prefer to use the term “ healthy weight management” because things we “lose” we often find again. We can help you to make better food choices, eat for the right reasons, increase your metabolism, become a “mindful eater” and become more active.
How effective is hypnosis for quitting smoking?
Some people are successful at quitting smoking after one session, others make take 2-3 sessions. If you really want to want to quit, we can help. Quitting to please someone else, without a true desire yourself, may not be effective. As stated earlier, you cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do.
Are there any “side effects” of hypnosis?
It has been noted after most hypnotic sessions, subjects report that they sleep better at night and are more relaxed during their daily life.
What if my desired goal is not on the list?
It would be impossible for us to list every issue hypnosis can help with. Just give us a call.
What is the difference between an individual session and hypnosis in a group setting?
In a group setting issues are addressed in a general way and the trance state is much lighter. In an individual session the trance is deeper and the suggestions are tailored specifically to your issue.
